This September, our student ministry started a new series in our small groups. We changed it up a bit and, for our senior high groups, we put guys with guys and girls with girls, and started the Guy Talk, Girl Talk series. So far it has been an awesome resource for us. The lessons are easy for any small group leader to follow - its not overbearing with prep time. It is also loaded with discussion questions and key principals to spur further discussion.
In small groups I always look for that moment when you know the point was driven home - you can feel it. It's almost like you can see the light bulbs go on in student's heads. We've had those moments every week so far. Each group is beginning to bond, and the discussion is starting to get deep.
We had a breakthrough moment last Sunday night when our guys group committed to a lifestyle of "praying on the spot." As discussion unfolded in our lesson, we got onto the subject of what a huge impact it would make if we would just pray on the spot with people. When people come with problems, don't give them the usual "I'll be prayin for ya!" response, but actually doing something about it right then and there.
Small groups are one of my favorite things to be apart of in ministry. We are seeing good things come from them.
Guy Talk, Girl Talk has proved to be good resource for us so far. You might want to check it out. It is yet another great resource from the youth ministry machine known as Simply Youth Ministry.
Topics that the series hits on:
Guys - Being a man, self image, lust, relationships, true strength, responsibility, leading, and more...
Girls - Appearance, friendships, purity, sex, value, worth, gossip, girl politics, and more...
